Keyboard Character Repeat Not Working

On my windows computer, I noticed my characters would not repeat after holding down a key on my keyboard to test the character repeat rate.

Scenario

Typing in a code editor or notepad, while holding down a key on the keyboard, only one character is typed instead of repeating the character a bunch of times until the key is no longer being held down.

To test:

  1. Press Windows key
  2. Type “keyboard”
  3. Select the “Keyboard” option
  4. Find the box in the middle that reads: “Click here and hold down a key to test repeat rate:”
  5. Type in the box to test if your keyboard character repeat is working

Problem

Keyboard shortcut for Filter keys

The accessibility keyboard filter keys may be ignoring brief or repeated keystrokes.

Resolution

  1. Navigate to Filter Keys
    1. Press the Windows button
    2. Type “filter keys”
    3. Select the “Filter keys” option
  2. Toggle the Keyboard shortcut for Filter keys to Off
